Question posed

The Green Left Weekly asks:

Venezuela – an ecologically sustainable revolution?

No. Just… no.

At a meeting in Brazil on April 26, 2006, plans moved ahead between Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil for a major transcontinental oil pipeline. The pipeline would be 10,000 kilometres long and would link the four countries plus Paraguay and Uruguay.

It’s all about the oil!! Wait, where have I heard that before?

On the one hand, the Chavez government needs to keep revenue flowing into its coffers to fund its massive array of social programs in Venezuela. On the other hand, the government’s major source of revenue is from the export of oil – Venezuela’s principal natural resource – by the state oil company PDVSA.

What, so the Venezuelan government needs to export to other countries stuff that they will buy, in order to make a profit. That’s a pretty neat system. Wonder what they call it?

This whole socialism thing is arse-about. In Australia, how many people on the Left would moan if the Australian Government profited from an operation? It’s okay if a socialist government does it, obviously. All you need to do is kill off all private enterprise and you’re set. It’s a recipe for success!

Anyway, back to the Great Oil Pipeline of Chavez:

This export income often comes at the expense of the environment. In a stark example of the environmental degradation caused by the oil industry, the December 18, 2000, US Business Week described the impact of the industry on Lake Maracaibo, located in the northern state of Zulia (where the bulk of Venezuela’s oil has come from). Once a pristine habitat for mangroves and flamingoes, the lake is now crowded with tankers, polluted with toxic industrial waste and is the repository for raw sewage from the surrounding area’s 5 million inhabitants.

So not only is Chavez destroying the environment, he’s starving the people of Venezuela and also pissing off the rest of the world. That’s what happens when you get a commie nutbag for a leader. Even the Green Left Weekly is casting the evil eye on Chavez. How telling.

Not dead yet

Dictator and commie scumbag, Fidel Castro, is getting better, according to another commie scumbag, Hugo Chavez.

I can hear the collective sighs from the Fairfax press from here.

Blame the Joooos

According to a “respected” and “highly influential” radical Muslim cleric from Sydney, Jews are pigs:

Sheikh Feiz Mohammed, head of the Global Islamic Youth Centre in Liverpool, delivers the hateful rants on a collection of DVDs called the Death Series, sold in Australia and overseas, News Limited newspapers report.

Almost sounds like a normal lecture from Antony Loewenstein. Still, moving on from those evil Joooos, this “influential” cleric has more to spray:

“Today many parents, they prevent their children from attending lessons,” he says in the video.

“Why? They fear that they might create a place in their hearts, the love, just a bit of the love, of sacrificing their lives for Allah.”

“We want to have children and offer them as soldiers defending Islam.

“Teach them this: There is nothing more beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid (holy warrior).

“Put in their soft, tender hearts the zeal of jihad and a love of martyrdom.”

I got cornered by a girl from Amnesty International on the street today, saying they wanted to stop the use of children as soldiers in war zones. Given that there are so many terrorist (and radical Muslim) apologists on the Left, and that organisations like Amnesty International are mostly made up of lefties, this must be a real brain buster.

I can hear them screaming “think of the children” now, however their leftiness is also crying out that we’ve got a higher chance of being killed by lightning than by an act of terrorism, so fighting terrorists is a stupid idea. But we have to stop militant Muslim groups recruiting young children to fight for them. But lightning is more harmful than terrorists. But the children…

I suggest we bomb the sky to get rid of lightning, and then we can save the children. Yup, foolproof.

Hanging around

So anyway, Saddam Hussein may be hanged within days. But it’s all shrouded in confusion and secrecy.

Either way, the world is better off without him.

As an added bonus, if you keep an eye on the ABC and SBS over the coming days, you will see more and more lefty bleating about this event.

UPDATE: Saddam to be hanged today. Sources say it’s about 2pm Sydney time which is… Right now. So long, Saddam!

UPDATE II: Sky News is reporting witnesses have been called to the site where Saddam is to be hanged. Looks like it’s go.

UPDATE III: On cable TV, Fox News is cheering the hanging of Saddam. BBC World is bagging out the Iraqi Government, the US-led invasion and essentially anything else. Still, no more Saddam.

UPDATE IV: Big Iraqi populations in Detroit, Michigan are out celebrating the execution of Saddam. Meanwhile, according to Sky News, reports are beginning to emerge that Saddam has in fact been executed in the last few minutes.

UPDATE V: Fox News is relaying reports from Al Arabiya that Saddam was indeed executed at 6am Iraqi time (2pm Sydney time).

I believe this is a positive step for the Iraqi people. There will be the usual bleating from the usual suspects, however for all those Iraqis affected by Saddam’s regime, this will come as a form of closure.

Now that Saddam’s gone, we can get on with the business of getting Iraq back on track.
